Online Youth Registration is Here!

Families can now sign up to join your Pack and troop Online! BeAScout.org now has a youth application for Packs and Troops.

Units can accept applications by going to My.Scouting.org. In the Menu, under your unit, i.e. Troop 1051 click “Application Manager.”

That will take you to the page with all your applications to approve:

Also on that page you will find an Invitation tab which allows your unit to invite youth and their families to join Scouts.

You can upload leads that you collect at signup events, download a QR code for flyers, and see the status of all the youth interested in your unit!

This video will help you get started.

Steve’s 2020 Growth Conference Recap

Sandra was invited to the 2020 Growth Conference, and I got to tag along (go see her recap, first)! I did a video recap over on my Scout blog, Boy Scouts Tech and I wanted to share the highlights of the conference with you:

Scouting’s best kept secret is the advances the national team have made with technology AND how they are going to manage program changes in the future – that is, how they are going to keep Scouting relevant in the 21st century. They have committed to using the Agile method of development, which will turnout great results for improving our technology and program materials.

They are also committed to reducing the amount of “regalia” we, as volunteers, need to buy for ourselves and our Scouts. For example, they are eliminating Tiger Scout socks, den-specific Den Leader patches (all Den Leaders will wear the Cub Scout Den Leader patch going forward) and there will only be one Cub Scout Belt, instead of den-specific belts.

Here are some of the resources that they passed along, please check them out!

  • Scoutbook Help Desk – tons of new and great resources with video how-tos!
  • Den Leader Tips & Tricks Videos – everything new and veteran Den Leaders need to roll into a productive Scouting year!
  • Scout Book Den Leader (BETA) sandbox – schedule an entire Scouting year for your den in a few clicks!
    • National IT is expecting to roll out a similar thing for Scouts BSA troops for youth leaders to plan out their Troops’ program
  • Explorer Career Interest Survey – now available online!
  • Scouting’s Bug Reporting system – having trouble with a BSA IT system? Lots of questions & answers available here, and the ability to open a trouble ticket with the National BSA IT team.
  • BSA Brand Center – are you building flyers or other materials online or printed? Please use the BSA brand center! The BSA’s marketing team has tons of pre-made content that has been market tested and complies with all our brand guidelines!

District Scout Show!

monkey_bridgeWhat:  The Lewis and Clark District Scout Show!
When:  September 9-10, 2016. Show begins 9am on 9/10
Where:  ExpoPark (the Fairgrounds)

Troops and Packs are all invited to camp overnight at the Expo Park for our annual Scout show.  For those needing an extra night of camping for rank advancement, camping merit badge, etc. this is a great opportunity to do so.  No open fires will be allowed, but we will have a lot of fun anyways.

On Friday night Troops and Packs will be helping to build a monkey bridge.
For any questions please contact Tami Lukas, event chair at 406-564-5344.

Its not too late!

Cub Scout recruitment time is here!

We are quickly approaching the most important date on the Scouting calendar, your Pack’s recruiting event!  This one recruitment session will set the tone for the entire Scouting year!

Will your unit grow (steady growth is the best indicator of a healthy unit), and will positive, helpful, and new parents be recruited to fill every volunteer role?

A recruiting plan to assure an effective recruiting event was presented during our district Cub Recruiting Orientation on August 18th.  If you missed the orientation, it is not too late to receive this valuable information!

This year, in addition to our district recruiting orientation, we are planning to conduct two more webinars.  You will need to click on the link to register and receive an email with the webinar access information.  We will conduct those webinars on the following dates:

September 1st at 6pm click on the link below to register!

September 2nd at 6pm click on the link below to register!

https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2191003786271790337

We need two leaders from each unit to have either participated in the orientation on the August 18th, or on the webinar.  This will set the tone for your entire Scouting year.

To support your effort, I have free flyers, posters and yard signs to be used for your recruiting event.  I  will gladly print up flyers for you with your specific recruiting event information!  Your district executive also has a packet of materials that includes the mini Boys’ Life magazine, Parents Guide, Parent information Envelope, Sign-In Roster, Cub Recruiting Guide. Also, new to this year is our New Leader Guide and a webkey with access to all of our recruiting materials online.

Please respond with the name of someone from your unit I can deliver these materials to (if you were at the August orientation, you may have some materials already).

This link will provide you with support for materials needed to have a successful recruitment:  https://bsamontanacouncil.box.com/s/nl6tse4o9q8hae0fa7ealu152zcufvhx

Recruitment/Membership Training RESCHEDULED for Thursday, August 22

The District’s Recruitment/Membership Training has been RESCHEDULED for 6:30pm in the basement of the Scout office, 820 17th Avenue South.

All Cub Scout units should make a point to attend and be represented at this training.  We will have a list of all the school back-to-school nights and we will be requesting volunteers to staff the tables at each event.

Lewis and Clark District has experienced membership growth in each of the last four years BECAUSE of your help, enthusiasm and commitment.  Please help us ensure growth this year!

Scout Show is August 13; What Will Be YOUR Unit’s Activity?

The Lewis and Clark District Scout Show will be August 13 at Lion’s Park.  This will be a high visibility event!

We ask every unit in the District to sign up to run an activity.  (Pioneering, First Aid, Relay Race — just have fun!)  Please let us know what activity your unit will run in the comments  below.

District Recruitment is STRONG!

On the heels of a very successful Cub Scout Recruitment Fair, membership and recruitment in the Lewis and Clark District is proceeding at great speeds!

Lewis and Clark District is on track to exceed our goals and register more than 775 traditional youth in our programs by the end of the calendar year.

Recruitment is not something that we just do in the Fall.  Every month, we should be trying to add youth to our programs.  Right now is a great time to sign up new youth to take advantage of summer programs — camps, hikes, etc.

Cub Scout Recruitment Fair on Thursday!

Our annual District Cub Scout Spring Recruitment Fair is quickly approaching, at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 26 in the Gibson Room of the Great Falls Civic Center.

All Cub Units in the District should make a point to attend and bring recruitment literature about their Packs!  Any boy that joins will have the opportunity to attend Cub Day Camp; this includes current Kindergarteners who now are eligible to become Tiger Cubs.
