District Meeting Minutes

The meeting was opened at 7:30 pm with 14 District members in attendance. The meeting was moved to the BSA office from the LDS Stake Center as the doors to the Stake Center were locked. Thanks to all units in attendance and a request from Bill for every unit in the District to have a representative attend the District Meeting.

Minutes of the April meeting were approved.

Welcome, Introductions and Recognitions – Bill thanked all of the Leaders and Boys from the Order of the Arrow, Apoxky-AIO Lodge 300, for a very successful Trail to First Class. Mr. Bill Lamere, Advance Board Member, introduced himself. Mr. Gary Byers, longtime Scouter, introduced himself. Dustin provided District Commission Rex Jewett with a Distinguished Commissioner Award from the Montana Council. Dustin also provided the Lewis and Clark District with several awards earned (most in Council) from the Montana Council Annual Meeting: highest increase in membership, highest membership growth, highest percent in day camp attendance, highest percent in venture growth and the JTE silver plaque.

Upcoming Training – Commissioners Training, May 31, 2014, 10:00 am, Medicine River Scout Center (bring lunch); YPT, June 3, 2014, LDS Stake Center.

Committee Reports –

Camping: Bill provided a report from camping committee. No Spring Camporee due to MT Council Camporee in June. Two mile hike/fishing trip at Holter Lake May 17, 2014. Space limited to 50 registrants. Contact Forest Labelle to register.

Advancement/Eagle Board: Bill Lamere stated the District has 12 Eagle Projects complete, 14 outstanding projects and the Lowes Gift Card Program will start up again in June 2014.

Membership: Stu Brown stated the District membership drive is set for May 10, 2014, at the Holiday Village Mall from 11:00 am – 3:00 p.m. All seven, non LDS, district packs are expected to be represented at the event.

Flag Retirement Ceremony: Stu stated Pack 143 will conduct several flag retirement ceremonies on June 14, 2014, from noon – 5:00 p.m. at the BSA office.

District Awards Banquet: Deb Kemper stated the banquet is set for May 9, 2014, 6 pm at the United Church of Christ, 2900 9th Avenue South. Chili and/or cornbread cook off will begin at 5 pm. Participants can submit either their favorite chili or cornbread recipes or both with a list of ingredients for food allergy purposes. Other menu items include hot dogs, chicken, dessert and drinks. There is no cost to attend.

Webelos Rendezvous: Bill stated Webelos Rendezvous, sponsored by Troop 4, is set for June 6-8, 2014 at Medicine River Scout Center. Cost is $15 per scout. Contact CJ Reeves, 788-8542, or Eric Spragg, 899-9298, to register.

Day Camp: Glenda Burton stated the day camp has 106 boys registered with still room for more. Also, day camp is still looking for volunteers to assist during the week-long event.

Flag Day: Paul Grosvold stated the Flag Day at Overlook Park is set for June 14, 2014, and that Troop 1 will coordinate.

OA: Paul Grosvold provided the non-results of the Scoutmaster desert cook off at TFC. Apparently, it was a tie between all entries submitted!!! Paul also stated the OA will be conducting a service project at the BSA office on May 31, 2014. OA will be cleaning the fire bowl ring and painting the flag pole in front of the building. Paul stated Ordeal forms are now online in the Apoxky-AIO Lodge 300 website, http://www.apoxkyaio.com/, under the resource tab.

Council Camporee: Aaron Weissman stated the Montana Council is encouraging units to sign up for the Council Camporee as registration has been light. Currently only 4 troops from the District have signed up to attend. Aaron also announced the Camporee will hold the Council Pinewood Derby this year.

World Jamboree: Aaron Weissman stated the 2015 World Scout Jamboree will be held July 28, 2015 – August 8, 2015, in Kirara-Hama, Japan near Yamaguchi City. All inclusive cost per attendee is $5,750. Contact John Manz, 406 210-1244, for more information.

District Executive Report – Dustin thanked all of the District volunteers, encouraged phone calls from unit leadership to their volunteers, encouraged unit to attend Council Camporee and stated recharter training will take place next fall.

District Commissioner Report – Rex thanks all of the Commissioners staff, announced basic commissioners training at MRSC, and stated the Council Camporee is still in need of volunteer Commissioners.

District Chair Report – Bill announced his term has expired and thanked all of the District Volunteers for their hard work the past couple of years. Bill also announced he will stay on as an Assistant District Char to help the incoming District Chair once they have been selected.
