District Roundtable and Meeting Minutes

The meeting was opened at 7:30 pm with 14 District members in attendance. Thanks to all units in attendance and a request from Bill for every unit in the District to have a representative attend the District Meeting and Roundtables. We only had 7 units represented at the meeting.
Minutes of the November meeting were not approved as Bill forgot. Any issues with November minutes contact Bill. No December meeting minutes as the meeting was cancelled due to weather.
Welcome, Introductions and Recognitions – Troop 153’s new Scoutmaster, Russell Lay introduced himself. Bill thanked all of the Unit Popcorn Chairs and the District Popcorn Kernel Devin Hartley for another successful popcorn sales year. Bill also thanked Thelma Allison and Jay Tuss for the District Chariot Races in December.
Old/New Business Upcoming Events – Recharters are overdue if Units have not turned in. Please complete ASAP. Merit Badge Pow-Wow, January 11 and 25, 2013, LDS Church 4601 3rd Avenue South, 0745-1200 both days. Klondike, January 17-19, 2013, Medicine River Scout Center. Scout Sunday, February 2, 2014. Scout Week, February 2-8, 2014. Scout Shabbat, February 8, 2014. Pinewood Derby, March 1, 2014, location TBD. Scouting for Food, March 22, 2014 (bag drop) – March 29, 2014 (food pick up).
Upcoming Training – Leader Specific Training, February 15, 2014 at the Scout office. Contact Keith Hasbrouck, email@example.com, for registration and information by February 10, 2014. Boy Scout LST 0800-1500. Cub Scout LST 0800-1200.
Committee Reports –
MRSC: Peter Jennings provided rendering drawings of MRSC from Nelson Architects to be used for mater planning and solicitations of donations. Peter also provided a status update of next steps in the master planning and has set a goal of 2014 for completion. Peter is hoping the budget goals, etc. will be complete in approximately 2 months.
Camping: Tim Locke stated Klondike is set for Medicine River Scout Center, January 17-19, 2014. He also stated there are a lot of fun events planned, including but not limited to curling, gaga pit; yeti hunt, cooking competitions, etc. Contact Forest Labelle, 406 788-0657, with questions.
Advancement/Eagle Board: Tim stated 15 Eagle Projects were completed in 2013 and 7 projects are ongoing. Tim also stated he is coordinating the Council’s $100 Lowes Gift Card Eagle Scout Project Grant Program. Applications can be found at http://www.scouting.org/trailtoeagle.aspx in the important links section. The card must be used for purchases of goods or services that are directly related to your project. Note that the card may be used at a Lowe’s location or with any vendor that accepts Discover cards. Purchase of food and tools is not permitted. Applications should be turned in directly to Tim. As a reminder, the Advancement Board meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m., 3340 11th Avenue South (Peace Lutheran Church).
Merit Badge Pow-Wow: Keith and Bill provided an update the pow-wow is set for January 11, 2014 and January 25, 2014, LDS Church 4601 3rd Avenue South, 0745-1200 both days. Flags and instructions promptly at 0815, 1st class 0815-1000, 2nd class 1015-1200. Boys should prepare by reading the merit badge books and workbooks for each class selected and bring two filled out blue cards for turn in on the first day of class. Don’t forget unit leader signature. Blue cards will be turned back to the unit leaders on the last day of class on the 25th. Boys are required to be in full Class A uniform.
OA: Tanner Dodge stated OA $10 dues are now due to the Scout Office. OA members will be attending the hockey game in Great Falls on January 24, 2014. OA will conduct ceremony practice on January 28, 2014 at the Scout office. Tanner requested Cub Units contact OA leader Paul Grosvold to schedule cross over ceremonies. OA will conduct their Spring Training on March 1, 2014.
Day Camp: Ken Roberts stated the Unit Day Camp Coordinators Training will take place January 25, 2014 at MRSC.
District Executive Report – Dustin was absent; however, he asked Bill to provide an update on the membership growth in the District for 2013. The L&C District was up 5.5% in membership for 2013.
District Commissioner Report – Rex stated recharters are due. Only 5 of the 46 Units are finished with their recharter paperwork. JTE Scorecards should be turned in with your recharter packages.
District Chair Report – Bill announced the 2014 National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) will take place at K-M from June 22-28, 2014. Registration deadline is limited to the first 48 Scouts. Cost is $250. Scouts must be at least 13 years of age and have obtained the rank of First Class. OA/Troop 1 Scout Tanner Dodge will serve as the SPL for NYLT. Bill encouraged all Units to send a representative to this valuable training.
