Upcoming Events
Chariot Races are on Saturday Dec 3rd at Central Catholic High School. Last year was our largest attendance in years, this year is expected to be even larger! This is the most fun activity all year in Cub Scouts. Check-in begins at 10:30 am and racing starts promptly at noon. If you have any questions, please call Thelma at 799-8093. Dave Mikulecky gave an updated report on this Klondike which is Jan 20-22nd. The Klondike will be held at the Rotary Camp in the Little Belt Mountains south of Monarch on Highway 89. Attendance at Klondike is mandatory for Venturers wishing to to participate in the February Venturing Climbing Trip. Snow activities (such as snow caves) will be the major focus of the Klondike as this area usually has snow deeper than 2 feet by January. JOTA was great fun. We weren’t able to ever reach the ISS, but the boys still learned a lot, and a few Scouts even worked on their Radio Merit Badge. At the same time, we held BALOO training, and it was very well attended! Anyone who came out to the MRSC on Saturday saw training going on, boys learning radio Merit Badge, units camping, and a work crew removing old towers from the field. Scouting was everywhere that weekend! Tiger Fun Day was Saturday Oct 22nd and had 22 Tigers in attendance. Everyone says they had a great time!
Upcoming Trainings
Merit Badge Pow-wow is January 14, Jan 28, and Feb 4th. This year the Merit Badge Pow-wow is being held at the LDS Great Falls Stake Center at 1401 9th St NW. We will be offering Boy Scout Basic Leader Training and Venture Leader training for adults at the Merit Badge Pow-wow. The council is having a Powderhorn course in 2012! Powderhorn will be held Jul 23-27 at Grizzly Base (outside of Bigfork). The application for Powderhorn is available on the council website at: www.montanabsa.org.
Medicine River Scout Center – There is now a woodstove fireplace insert at the center (thank you John Ginnaty). It is waiting to be installed. We are still looking for a company to donate a roof. Thank you to everyone who has been working out at the center this fall – it is really starting to come together.
Popcorn Sale – The sale was awesome! We sold $217,905 which was an increase of 2.2% above last year’s record sales! Of the 15 districts in Montana Council only 7 ran an increase, and we we were one those districts with a great sale. We still don’t have a final total for online sales, but it will only add to our increase. Great job. Thanks to Nicole Dodge and all of our unit popcorn chairs and boys that sold.
District Executive Report
District Commissioner Report
Unit Charter Renewal – recharters have been mailed to all units. Recharters are due in by 11/30.
Unit Commissioners – we are still looking for unit commissioners. If you are interested, please contact Brian at 590-2233
District Chair Report
Journey to Excellence Targets – we need to push for silver and gold status. Advancement must be entered through the online advancement form to be counted towards the goal.
Website/Blog/twitter tracking statistics – Aaron covered some our recent successes with the websites. Over 700 pages views on the blog last month! Over 125 subscribers to the emails. We still have lots of room for growth and improvement – we want all of our Scout parents on the email list. We will have email sign up sheets at all of our activities going forward.
Other Business
-OA wants to host the Fall Fellowship at Medicine River Scout Center this year. OA also needs dates to begin planning crossovers.
Adjourned at 8:10pm.  Next meeting December 6th, 2011, 7:30 p.m. at LDS Stake Center, 1015 15th Avenue South
