Busy Scouting Weeks Ahead!

Lewis and Clark District Committee and Scouters:

Wow, what a busy couple of weeks!  For those of you that attended the Council Camporee, I am sure that you agree that it was an incredible event and an example of what a Scouting event can be with lots of great planning and enthusiasm.

This week brings us Cub Day Camp and a visit from our national Chief Scout Bob Mazzuca.  Next week brings us the Independence Day Parade, as a number of units begin to leave for Summer Camp and City Commission action on our lease for the Medicine River Scout Center.

I will discuss the last item first.  At 7 p.m. on July 5, the City Commission will be debating our proposed lease for the Medicine River Scout Center.  It is important that we show the Commission that we support this lease.  Of course, that meeting directly conflicts with our planned District Roundtable and Meeting.  I believe that it is very important that uniformed Lewis and Clark District Scouters attend this meeting and speak in favor of the lease.  As a result of all this conflict, the Key 3 has gone into a huddle and decided to cancel our District Roundtable and meeting scheduled for July.  We will meet as regularly scheduled in early August.

Moving backward in time, Independence Day has snuck up on us, for some of us virtually unawares!  As always, the District will be sponsoring Scouts marching in the parade.  Participation in the parade is a way that units can help qualify for the Summertime Pack Award!  Please have Scouts report in before the parade, in uniform, in our normal place next to the Police Department Headquarters.

This Thursday, we are going to be honored by a visit from BSA’s Chief Scout Bob Mazzuca.  There is still some room for those that want to attend the event at 7 p.m. at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center!  If you wish to attend, you MUST register by transmitting your RSVP.  You can RSVP on the new District blog (more about this in a few moments) at http://lcdistrictcommittee.wordpress.com.  If you are going to attend and have not already done so, please RSVP as SOON as possible as we need a good count.

Cub Day Camp starts today.  Planning makes for a great event, and kudos need to be given to our Day Camp committee, who have been working for the past year on making this the best Day Camp ever!  Special appreciation for hard work to Ron and Kathy Colwell, Cristen Cochran, Jen Habets and Ken Roberts.  We have a record number of boys signed up; stop by Wadsworth Park and see the great time that is being enjoyed by so many Cub Scouts in Great Falls!

Looking ahead on the calendar, please remember that we are participating in the Great Falls Air Show on July 30.  Watch your emails for more information on how to participate!

We have great things planned for our District Scout Show on August 13.  We have rented Lion’s Park on 10th Avenue South and would like every unit in the District to sign up to lead an activity.  There is a sign up form on the District Blog.

What is this District Blog that I have been talking about?  In addition to our fabulous District website (at http://lcmtbsa.org), we thought that it would be a good idea to utilize the collaboration technologies of a blog to help get the word out about what we are doing.  Therefore, we have created a blog, at http://lcdistrictcommittee.wordpress.com, which eventually will be folded into a section of the main District website.

We intend for the head of every District operating and event committee to be able to post information on this blog.  There is a lot of information there now, as well as a live link to our District Calendar.  Go check it out!

Yours in Scouting,
